This route is also home to four of New Zealand’s great bike rides, including the original Otago Rail Trail. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Christchurch, which takes around 6 hours.

Starting June 2025, Jetstar will commence international flights to/from the Gold Coast (Coolangatta), Australia, making it easier for international travellers to visit this historic city.
