UPDATE: Services to return for the summer!

We are pleased to announce that the Northern Explorer and Coastal Pacific trains will be returning to the tracks this spring and summer and the Tranz Alpine is running as we are in Covid- 19 Alert Level 1.

The Northern Explorer running between Auckland and Wellington will recommence its normal weekly timetable from Wednesday 07 October 2020

The Coastal Pacific returns from Tuesday 13 October 2020, running between Christchurch and Piction and returning the same day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The TranzAlpine running between Christchurch to Greymouth  runs on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

Cook Strait ferry bookings and some daytours and bus routes are also open for sale. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries on 0800 143 669 or info@newzealandtravelteam.com

We understand that Covid-19 continues to add uncertainty in planning, and indeed all the train services rely on the country being at Covid - 19 Alert Level 1. Should there be cancellation of services due to Covid 19 restrictions, we will offer affected customers a transfer to an alternative date, a credit for 12 months, or a refund, regardless of the fare purchased less a $30 processing fee for the entire reservation.

Auckland to Paihia + Waitangi Treaty Grounds - AKL-PIH GS8-23 (0730 - 1330)

Travel from Auckland to Paihia in the Bay of Islands on this half-day sightseeing tour.

Your journey into the 'winterless North' begins as you cross over the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge. Along the way your driver guide will keep you informed and entertained, pointing out sites of interest as you drive through rolling farmland and lush native forest into the Northland region.

Take a brief morning tea break in Kaiwaka (own expense); your tour continues past Whangarei and through Kawakawa (home of the famous Hundertwasser toilets) before arriving arriving at the seaside town of Paihia.

On arrival in the Bay of Islands we visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds for a guided tour of the historic place where in 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between Maori and the British Crown. Explore the original Treaty House, one of New Zealand's oldest and most visited historic homes and Te Whare Runanga, a fully carved Maori meeting house, which is representative of all iwi (regional tribes) in New Zealand. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds offer a truly unique insight into New Zealand's early history.

You'll have the rest of your day at leisure to explore Paihia and relax. During your stay in the Bay of Islands we recommend you take the opportunity to explore this stunning region.
