The Wellington to Auckland train service is a scenic rail journey on The Overlander train through the heart of the North Island, travelling between Wellington - New Zealand’s arts and culture capital,  through the central heartland of the North Island to Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city - home of the Sky Tower.

Carriages on the Overlander train are centrally heated/air conditioned, with 'Two Seats-Aisle-Two Seats' forward facing reclining seats with head rests, onboard toilet/ washroom facilities and large panoramic windows giving sweeping views of the North Island.

The lounge style seating is arranged at the very rear of this glass backed Observation Carriage enabling you to enjoy a totally unique experience.


The Overlander train is a reserved seating 'One Class'  non-smoking service.

The Overlander train connects with various bus and coach services in Auckland and  Palmerston North to other North Island destinations. 

There are connecting bus and coach services from Hamilton to Rotorua and Tauranga.

The Overlander train connects with The Coastal Connection ferry/train service from Christchurch and Kaikoura to Wellington.

From Auckland you can explore the beautiful Bay of Islands or the thermal wonderland of Rotorua with a range of suggested 'Flexi' bus/coach pass travel itinerary options.
